I grew up in Westchester County, New York. I was a shy little girl with curly red hair and I blushed at the drop of a hat! (Until the day I decided not to blush anymore). I found my refuge in books.
The earliest book I remember loving in elementary school was The Borrowers by Mary Norton. Then I moved on to Nancy Drew by Carolyn Keene. (I loved reading about a character with my name). Nancy Drew led to a lifelong love of Mysteries. Would you believe my dream as a kid was to be a spy?! (That never happened although it’s probably why I love the Mrs. Polifax series by Dorothy Gilman).
Instead I became a Registered Nurse and worked in the areas of Coronary Care (taking care of people with heart problems), Intensive Care (caring for really sick people) and then Hospice (caring for people who were dying). Those experiences showed me how precious each moment is.
I have two grown children. I volunteered for many different activities in their elementary school, which confirmed my belief in the importance of books in children’s lives. I write picture books, Middle Grade chapter books and I’m currently working on a Middle Grade novel series. My goal is to give hope, joy, and a sense of empowerment to all children through my books.
